New edition of the Nice Classification enters into force

New edition of the Nice Classification – 13th edition (version 2026) entered into force on 1 January 2026.

Trade mark applications filed from that date onwards are classified according to this new edition.

Latest updates to the Nice Classification introduce significant changes, for example for eye glasses, which have been moved from class 9 to 10, emergency vehicles moved from class 9 to 12, heated clothing from class 11 to 25 and essential oils (according to purpose: classes 1, 3, 5 or 30), as well as changes regarding services where artificial intelligence (AIaaS) is included as a new item in class 42.

Nice Classification is an international system used to classify goods and services for the purposes of registering trademarks.
